In 2024 a book club was formed at a nursing home in Rockport, MA, where residents analyze children’s picture books as an art form. With support from the local library and several library consortiums across the state, copies of books are provided to each resident. Club organizers include a retired registered nurse, a former teacher and local author, and the town’s assistant library director. The club meets monthly. A particularly enjoyable discussion happened last fall when How My Daddy Taught Me to Dance, by Susie Rich, and This Jazz Man, by Karen Ehrhardt, were reviewed. Doug Rich, a graduate of Berklee College of Music and Board Member of Rockport Music, brought his double bass and played in concert with the readings. The result?
